Komani, a Brackenfell project established by the Umtshayelo Foundation non-profit organisation, has called for sponsorship to help it manufacture 10 000 reusable menstrual pads to be donated to Eastern Cape schoolgirls.
The project’s Komani to Komani (K2K) campaign aims to donate 500 packs of four pads to 20 schools in the town of Komani, formerly Queenstown, and along the main routes in the Eastern Cape in October, according to Stephanie Lamour, director of the project.
“It’s a clarion call. For two years, we have heard pleas from schools, and seen the heartbreaking impact of period poverty, she said.
One reusable pad could last for three years, preventing hundreds of pads from ending up in landfills, she said.
The project will hold a lunch at 17 Lood Street in Brackenfell Industrial to drum up sponsorship for the campaign.
