Cape Town Carnival brings lekker vibe to Fan Walk

Innes Oosthuizen from Durbanville puts some lip colour on Leah Webb from Steenberg while getting ready for the Cape Town Carnival. Thousands of people flocked to the Green Point Fan Walk on Saturday March 16 for the annual Cape Town Carnival.

Fifty community groups from across Cape Town entertained visitors who stood along Somerset Road.

One of the highlights was having rap artist YoungstaCPT on a float, dancing to his song Lekker , in keeping with the carnival’s theme of the same name.

Chuma Nozewu from Gugulethu helps Fabian Arries from Eerste River with a Transformer costume. Pennsylvanians Crooning Minstrels team member Justin May from Kensington sits for a face full of glitter by his teammate Zaylin Adonis from Portland in Mitchell’s Plain. Performers Andrea Harry from Retreat and Zinhle Nzungane from Nyanga get into costume and character. Dacia Dakota and Kendall Aikho, both from Kensington, dressed for the parade. People flocked to the Fan Walk along Somerset Road to watch the carnival parade. The City’s Fire and Rescue services formed part of the opening of the carnival parade. YoungstaCPT, right on the Schweet float was a highlight of the street parade. YoungstaCPT entertains on the Schweet Float. The floats lit up the Fan Walk in the evening Dancers and performers representing nature on a chameleon float. A gaming float represented “lekker” games. Fan dancers brought life to the floats.
