Three non-profit organisations, The Tiervlei Trial Centre, 67 Blankets for Mandela Day and Angels in Action, handed over winter warmers and served refreshments to patients at the Durbanville clinic on Mandela Day.
Donations included 60 scarves , 40 beanies, 40 socks and 20 blankets, according to provincial health department spokeswoman Shimoney Regter.
The clinic’s facility manager, Liesel Rose-Benjamin said: “When my patients are happy, I am happy. I saw many smiling faces. People feel cared for. We cannot do what we do without every partner, be it NPO or other stakeholders. Our local organisations know that many people are struggling, especially in this cold weather. Today we could hand out beanies, blankets and other winter warmers.”
Elizabeth Leukes, from 67 Blankets for Mandela Day, said: “Every day is a Mandela Day and an opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life. We often see how others struggle, and if you are within the means to help someone, reach out and uplift them. We are a group of 18 ladies and decided to crochet blankets as the past winter has been cold. We hope that residents will know that they are cared for.”
