■ The old Scouts Hall in AJ West Street, renamed the Safe Info Space, is getting an R850 000 upgrade to turn it into a refuge for homeless people, giving them somewhere safe to sleep at night, thanks to the City’s mayoral urban regeneration programme and the efforts of Mould Empower Serve (MES) and the Voortrekker Road City Improvement District (“Project for Bellville’s homeless,” Northern News July 28). The first part of the upgrade replaced the old, broken asbestos roof and gutters. The inside was tiled, the ablution block repaired and some toilets and basins replaced. The second part of the upgrade, due to be done by the end of October, will see inside and outside lighting installed and the ceiling replaced along with broken windows and door frames and doors.
