The University of the Western Cape (UWC) has retained its position on the Times Higher Education (THE) 2018 World University Rankings – as one of the top 800 universities in the world.
UWC’s rector and vice-chancellor, Professor Tyrone Pretorius said he was proud of the university’s achievements. UCT placed 171, while Stellenbosch University made it into the top 400.
In 2017, UWC was ranked one of the top 100 universities worldwide in the Golden Age University Rankings for universities established for more than 50 years but less than 80.
Professor Pretorius said UWC was a metaphor for South Africa: “Thinking locally, acting globally, and overcoming the past to punch above our weight”.
