Time is running out for those who still have to register for the mid-year examination as registration for this second chance opportunity to write or rewrite the matric examinations closes this Thursday January 31.
This examination, which will be written in June, is intended for those pupils who have not completed their matric, those who want to improve their results and write a supplementary examination as well as those who failed their matric.
Pupils can visit www.education.gov.za and click on the link to register for the Amended Senior Certificate examinations at the bottom left of the Department of Basic Education website homepage. This will link pupils to an online registration portal. Alternatively, pupils can visit their nearest district education office and register in person there.
Who qualifies?
Only candidates who were registered for and wrote the November 2018 NSC examination
2018 Grade 12 pupils may register to write the examination if:

they failed to meet the requirements in the November examination;

they passed but seek to improve their performance; or
-
they were absent from the writing of one or more question papers due to ill-health or other unforeseen circumstances.
How do I apply and submit my application?
Application forms are available at high schools, district and provincial education offices as well as from the website:

You must submit your application with a copy of your statement of results, a certified copy of your ID, and a motivation letter if required. Application forms may be dropped off at the Education District Office closest to the pupil or visit the Exam Walk-in Centre at the Western Cape Education Department head office, 2nd Floor, Lower Parliament Street, Cape Town.

Second Chance Matric Support Programme
The aim of the Second Chance Matric Support Programme is to provide extra support to those wishing to complete their matric.
The programme will provide free tutoring to pupils who have registered for the 2019 supplementary National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams, have registered for the May/June exam for adult matric candidates, and repeater candidates who plan to register for the November 2019 NSC exams.
The tutoring will cover the following subjects: accounting, agricultural sciences, business studies, economics, English First Additional Language, geography, history, life science, mathematics, mathematical literacy, and physical science.
Master teachers will provide face-to-face tutoring at selected venues. Candidates will also have access to Mindset Broadcast lessons via HD OpenView at specified broadcast centres.
The face-face-classes will use Mind the Gap study material in eight of the 11 subjects, in addition to past question papers and study guides.
The district co-ordinators in the different education district below can provide details on when lessons will start.
