Sub-council 21 has approved projects that it says will employ 105 people, most of them women.
Councillors approved the four Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) projects worth R1.9 million, in a meeting on Friday June 11, according to draft minutes.
The sub-council’s wards span Kuils River, Blue Downs, Zevenwacht, Sarepta, Eerste River, Rosedale and Mfuleni.
According to the minutes, the EPWP programme for wards 11, 19 and 108 will employ 45 women and the City will pay R700 000 on their salaries; a safety-ambassadors project will employ 20 people in wards 11 and 19 and pay R400 000 in salaries; cleaning in wards 11, 19 and 108 will create 30 EPWP job opportunities; and cleaning in ward 108 will create 10 EPWP opportunities
