■ The Greater Tygerberg Partnership (GTP) held its second successful free pop-up skate park at the Kerkplein parking lot on Saturday March 11. Building on the success of last year’s event, the GTP offered cash and other prizes this year (“Skaters ‘pop-up’ in Kerkplein,” Northern News, April 21 2016). GTP marketing and events assistant Tanya Muller said they had kept the competition free as they did not want to put a limit on who took part. GTP’s new CEO, Warren Hewitt, said the event gave northern suburbs skaters a chance to have fun in a safe place. This was Mr Hewitt’s first event with the GTP. He officially takes up office on Saturday April 1. Internationally renowned pro skateboarder Jean-marc Johannes, returned to the event. “These events help to develop urban sport and put us on the map,” he said.
