A convicted robber serving three years of correctional supervsion has been arrested in Wallacedene in connection with the hijacking of an Uber driver
The 28-year-old suspect is linked to more than 25 hijacking cases in the province, say police.
He was arrested while sitting in a white Toyota Corolla in Fountain Street just before 7am on Tuesday January 7.
According to Captain Hein Hendricks, the suspect hijacked and robbed an Uber driver in Kuils River in the early hours of Tuesday.
“The Uber driver contacted the owner of the vehicle he rents who activated the tracker installed on the vehicle. Provincial traffic was also informed and assisted Kraaifontein police. The suspect was found sitting inside the hijacked vehicle and in possession of the Uber driver’s cellular phone as well as an imitation firearm,” said Captain Hendricks.
The suspect had been arrested in December 2019 on two counts of robbery and sentenced to three years correctional supervision, said Captain Hendricks.
