The University of Western Cape (UWC) has launched a No Student Will be Left Behind campaign to ensure that students have access to laptops and data to continue their education during lockdown.Â
Acting rector and vice-chancellor of UWC, Professor Vivienne Lawack, said: “Our research reveals a harsh reality that 30% of our 24 000-strong student body does not have access to devices like laptops, or even to data, while on lockdown at home. There are grave disparities among our students with regard to their socio-economic backgrounds. We are therefore turning to the public, corporates, alumni and business people for assistance in our time of need. The Covid-19 pandemic remains unpredictable, and the situation locally and abroad remains exceptionally fluid.”Â
