The City has approved one out of six requests by residents for traffic-calming measures along roads in Brackenfell and Kraaifontein.
The measures were considered unnecessary along Ridgeview Close and Northpine Drive in Northpine; George Way in Brackenfell; York Road in Windsor Park, between Byron and Edward streets; Berman Street in Peerless Park; and 1st Avenue, between Station and Lincoln streets, in Belmont Park, according to City traffic engineering technician Akhona Maseko, whose report was included in the agenda of the Sub-council 2 meeting on Wednesday.
She suggested that speed hump be considered for 11th Avenue, between Denne and Van Der Bijl streets, in Belmont Park because of the play park in the vicinity.
In most of the rejected roads, there were no schools or public amenities that would have warranted traffic-calming measures, and the two churches in York Road did not attract “high concentrations or vulnerable pedestrian activity”, she said.
Sub-council 2 chairwoman Marian Nieuwoudt said they would assess the findings.
