Armed robberies in Kraaifontein remain a concern for police despite increased patrols in the area.
Kraaifontein police spokesman, Captain Hein Hendricks, urged residents to be vigilant when leaving their homes.
This comes after a 35-year-old man was stabbed to death in Denne Street, Belmont Park, while on his way to work just before 9am on Wednesday January 8.
The man was stabbed in the chest and robbed of his cellphone.
“According to sources, the victim had been attacked by three unknown men.
“No arrests have been made and detectives are working around the clock to find the perpetrators,” Captain Hendricks said.
On Tuesday January 7, Kraaifontein police arrested a 19-year-old man for armed robbery after a woman was attacked by two men on the Van Riebeeck Road Bridge.
The men attacked from behind and held both the woman’s arms together.
“She managed to get out of the grip while another attacker pulled out a knife,” Captain Hendricks said.
The robbers ran off when an off-duty policeman came to the woman’s aid.
“The suspects fled off in different directions but one of them was caught along the railway line in Peerless Park North,” Captain Hendricks said.
