Three men wanted for a string of crowbar burglaries were arrested last week, just hours, it’s believed, after doing a morning’s “work” in both Kuils River and Flamingo Vlei.
Police say they arrested the men in Table View on Monday January 14 after the suspects crashed their car into a security company vehicle while fleeing.
According to police spokeswoman Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, Table View police heard at 10.45am that a car linked to a string of burglaries was on Blaauwberg Road headed to the West Coast Road.
Police and armed-response officers mounted a search and a vehicle matching its description was spotted. It hit a security vehicle as the suspects tried to get away.
Officers approached the car with caution and ordered the three occupants to get out.
“The vehicle was searched and officers discovered a flat-screen TV, other electronic devices and jewellery inside the vehicle. The registration number of the vehicle did not match the licence disc,” said Sergeant Rwexana.
Police suspect the men are behind several burglaries, including one in Kuils River and another in Flamingo Vlei – both committed just hours earlier, on the very day the men were caught.
“A short while later, the property found inside the vehicle was linked to a house break-in which had occurred in Flamingo Vlei on the same day,” said Sergeant Rwexana.
“The vehicle has also been linked to burglaries in the Bellville area,” she added.
The suspects are all in their early 20s.
