Two-month-old Kwahlelo Tiwane, one of twin boys, is still missing (“Gone in the blink of an eye,” Northern News, January 22) after he was reported kidnapped in Parow earlier this month.
His alleged kidnapper, Karabo Vivian Tau, 18, made her second appearance in court on Thursday January 23. She applied for bail in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court, according to regional National Prosecuting Authority spokesman Eric Ntabazalila.
Ms Tau, who faces a charge of kidnapping, appeared again in court on Monday January 27 for her application.
Police spokesman Colonel André Traut said a woman posing as a social worker had asked for the baby’s birth certificate and clinic card before disappearing with the infant.
The Cape Argus reported Ms Tau had allegedly confessed to police that she had sold the baby to foreign nationals.
Her boyfriend, Ely Kibunda, 22, also appeared in court in connection with the case on Monday January 27.
Kibunda’s bail application was postponed to be heard separately on Monday February 3, and for his particulars to be checked.
He is from the DRC but has been living in South Africa since the age of six.
