A new book, Pregnancy Sense, to help pregnant women and those who are planning a family was launched at Origin Family-Centred Maternity Hospital, in Panorama, on Wednesday August 3.
It is written by Megan Faure, an occupational therapist with a special interest in babies and toddlers; Dr Jacky Searle, an obstetrician/gynaecologist; and Heather Wood, clinic sister at Thula Baby Centre in Mouille Point.
The book covers preparing for pregnancy, birth choices, your growing baby week by week, your changing body week by week, a guide to birth, premature birth, and your newborn’s first days and weeks.
Dr Searle, one of the consulting gynaecologists at Origin Family-Centred Maternity Hospital said: “Each birth – your baby’s entry into our world – is a profoundly significant moment, one you don’t get to repeat.
“Being empowered with knowledge, understanding your choices and being active in the process will make a huge difference. Ultimately, it does not matter how your baby is born; what matters is how you experience it, and that it is safe.”
Published by Metz Press of Welgemoed, copies are available at bookstores.
The Afrikaans version, Koester Jou Swangerskap, will be available from the end of September. For further information visit www. metzpress.co.za
