Police are warning the public to stay vigilant following muggings in Langeberg Road, in Durbanville, and Morningstar.
“We are aware of people being robbed and attacked, especially those walking home near Morningstar or on their way to Wellway Park. We are monitoring the situation and will put measures in place. We urge people not to walk late at night from the pubs or down the main roads in Morningstar, especially during load shedding,” said Durbanville police spokesman Captain Marchell Rhode.
Rita Manuel, a member Morningstar’s neighbourhood watch, said she and other residents had gone to the aid of two men who were robbed in the neighbourhood during load shedding on Tuesday night May 23.
“I was at my house at the time when my husband and I heard someone screaming for help. We rushed outside and saw two guys in the street, one was lying in the road and the other was screaming for help. A lot of the also neighbours came outside to help them.”
One of the men had been badly beaten, she said, and they had lost their cellphones and wallets.
The two men had apparently been walking home from a pub in Durbanville when they were attacked in Langeberg Road, she said.
