Kuils River police station’s four sectors each has its own commander whom residents can contact with their crime concerns. This week the Northern News introduces you to the commanders for sectors 2 and 3.
■ Constable Patrick Hoffmann is the commander for Sector 2. The boundaries for this sector are from Shoprite in Van Riebeeck Road to Nooiensfontein Road, to the R300 until the Stellenbosch Arterial.
Constable Hoffman said the crime in these areas happened mostly in “seasons” but robberies and home break-ins were the predominant crimes throughout the year. The area also has a lot of gang and drug activity, he said.
“Parents must encourage their children to attend school,” he said, saying bunking and drop outs contributed to the gang problem. “They must be disciplined. When they out of school they have nothing to do.”

■ Sergeant Maria Compion is the commander for Sector 3: The areas which fall in this sector are Access Park, Drostdy Park, Soneike, Annandale, Bosman’s Estate, Brandwacht, Rouxville, Amandelsig, Haasendal, Elim, Bosonia, Mikro Park, Klipdam, Deo Gracia and Rosemary and Thyme Gardens. Sergeant Compion said the sector was mostly residential and the predominant crimes in the area were property related, such as burglaries, thefts of cars and thefts from cars. Sergeant Compion said there was a new burglary trend where robbers removed the whole lower window.
“Put in burglar bars on the whole window and activate the alarm at night,” Sergeant Compion advised.
She said there was also an increase of robberies targeting primary school children. She advised that children be escorted or walk in groups.
