Brackenfell hip hop dancers are appealing to the public to pay their airfares to Johannesburg so they can compete in a competition..
The Born Spartans group, made up of junior and senior teams, was founded by Everton Spartan in 2016, according to Nicole Jafta, a spokeswoman for the group.
“We are a hip hop dance crew with dancers from Kraaifontein, Kuils River and the surrounding areas even as far as Paarl. So far we’ve won six national titles and one silver medal. We’ve also represented the country at three world championships since 2016, one of which was last year in Portugal.
“We are currently ranked as the 2021 and 2022 national winners for the best dance crew at the SA Championships and achieved eighth place at the World Hip Hop Championships held in Portugal last year.”
Last month, they competed in the Global Dance Supreme Intercontinental Championship, at Camps Bay High School, and qualified for the finals to be held at Gold Reef City, in Johannesburg, from Friday October 6 to Sunday October 8.
“We’ll compete against some of the best dancers in Africa. We do, however, require funds for uniform, our flight, accommodation and meals,” said Ms Jafta.
The group will hold a high tea fund-raiser at Rosenpark, in Bellville, on Sunday May 28,,from 3pm to 6pm. For details, call Nicole Jafta at 084 319 4095.
