The City has ruled out traffic-calming measures for four roads in Brackenfell after residents called for them.
The measures are unnecessary, according to a City traffic engineering technician whose report was included in the agenda of Sub-council 2’s meeting on Wednesday.
The roads are Serenata Street in Protea Heights, Basset Street in Vredekloof, Magnolia and Petunia streets in Morgenster and Viben Avenue in Brackenfell Industrial.
In her report, Akhona Maseko said all the roads were in medium-density residential areas.
She said their assessment indicated that there were no schools or any public amenities along Serenata Street that could attract a high volume of pedestrians on the roadway.
Sight distances on Basset Road were observed to be adequate for the environment and to allow pedestrians and motorists enough time of decision-making to cross the road, Ms Maseko said. The road was also not accessed directly by any public facility.
Magnolia and Petunia streets and Viben Avenue were ruled out because the roads were not accessed directly in connection to any public facility.
Traffic-calming measures were provided to protect vulnerable pedestrians and other road users in residential areas and where there were public facilities such as schools and clinics, Ms Maseko said.
