* Six motorists were arrested in Brackenfell at the weekend, said provincial traffic spokesperson Jacques Mostert.
Four were arrested for drunken driving, one for reckless and negligent driving and one for false documentation.
Mr Mostert said that 156 speeding incidents were recorded and 176 fines worth R267 450 were issued. The highest speed recorded was by a motorist who clocked in at 231 km/* in a 120 km/* zone in Brackenfell, he said.
“Speeding plays a causal and aggravating role in many fatal crashes on Western Cape roads. We encourage motorists to slow down. This will greatly reduce the likelihood of a horrific crash that could result in serious injuries or death,” Mr Mostert said.
