Police arrested a motorcyclist for stealing a bakkie in Brackenfell in the early hours of Sunday June 18. The 37-year-old man was caught on the R300 and the bakkie was recovered within five minutes of the theft.
Brackenfell police spokeswoman Captain Erica Crous said the neighbourhood watch had radioed for help after the bakkie was stolen from Dirkie Uys Street in Protea Heights.
The motorcyclist and an accomplice were seen breaking into the bakkie and the neighbourhood watch members gave chase until police and a security company caught up with them.
Police recovered the bakkie where the driver had abandoned it on the R300 before running off.
The motorcyclist was arrested and found with tools typically used to break into cars.
