Yolanda Ntanyana, 20, of Wallacedene jets off to India in April after being awarded a year-long yoga-teaching internship.
The third-year student at the Indoni Dance Arts and Leadership Academy in Pinelands was chosen to be part of a pilot project, which includes Health Warriors, a non-profit organisation in Khayelitsha.
Lusindiso Dibela, 26, from Khayelitsha, will join Yolanda in India, where they will spend three months at the Sampoorna Yoga teacher training school in Goa.
Yolanda, who grew up with her aunt in a Wallacedene shack, says she is excited about the opportunity to go abroad but needs to raise R30 000 for her trip.
She and Lusindiso have a BackaBuddy campaign which has raised R7 490.50 since it was launched on Thursday February 20.
Yolanda says she has big dreams for communities such as Wallacedene, where people cannot afford yoga classes.
“When I get back from India, I would like to open my own studio and teach children and the elderly yoga.”
