UWC graduates can once again physically receive their degrees after the campus announced a return to in-person graduations.
Graduations, from Monday March 28 to Monday April 4, were the first such ceremonies at the UWC’s Bellville campus since 2019.
To comply with Covid-19 safety protocols, the ceremonies took place in a marquee instead of the main hall.
According to UWC’s website, more than 4000 students graduated, and the ceremonies were described as “contactless” and only vaccinated graduates and guests who could show proof of their vaccination were allowed onto the campus.
UWC registrar Dr Nita Lawton-Misra said that graduating with a university qualification amidst the challenging circumstances caused by the pandemic was a monumental achievement.
“I salute all students who rose above the prevailing pandemic conditions and emerged victorious – your strength and resilience bode well for your future success. Congratulations.
