Two days after a Northern News article highlighted serious staff shortages at Parow SAPS, a joint operation under Tygerberg cluster commander Major General Thembikile Patekile swept through the suburb on Friday February 24 (“Parow safety ‘compromised’”, Northern News, February 22). SAPS spokesman Captain Kevin Williams said the purpose was “to create a safe and secure Parow.” They searched problem buildings and drug houses and arrested robbery suspects in Station and Voortrekker roads. Traffic fines worth R14 500 were issued, there were three drug arrests and three arrests for possession of dangerous weapons. Forty officers from SAPS, Metro police, law enforcement and traffic services were involved.
