Eight primary schools in Kraaifontein have each won R15 000 worth of building materials in an annual competition.
A Brackenfell hardware store invited Grade 1 to 7 pupils from schools in the area to submit drawings to the company.
Northpine, Ekuthuleni, Lawrencia Wallacedene, Scottsville, Bastion, Imvumelwano and Brooklands primary schools all benefited.
Northpine Primary School’s deputy principal, Beatrice Fredericks, said at the prize-giving last Thursday that the school could now do badly needed repairs. “First, we need to tackle the boys’ and girls’ toilets where we will install new wash basins and paint and tile both areas. We also need to upgrade the kitchen.”
Wallacedene Primary’s principal, Wendy Mnbude, said the school’s governing body would meet to decide which repairs took priority.”
Wallacedene Primary is one of the poorest schools in the community and most parts of the school building need to fixed so we will discuss which areas we will be focusing on first.”
