Aaron Adams is jetting off on an all-expenses-paid trip to Paris this month to take part in one of the world’s top marathons.
The 21-year-old Summer Greens resident first discovered his passion for running in 2010, and, after many years of track and field, he chose last year’s Sanlam Cape Town Marathon as his debut marathon. And now he will be taking part in the Paris Marathon on Sunday April 9.
“Participating in last year’s Sanlam Cape Town Marathon was a phenomenal experience,” said Aaron.
While his race didn’t go according to plan, he is determined to participate again this year.
“I experienced quite a bit of pain and cramping and there were several moments during the race when I questioned why I signed up. But, ultimately, it was worth every single moment of discomfort. To be able to cross that finish line left me with a feeling and sense of accomplishment I will never forget.”
Aaron said he would not have been able to complete the race, had it not been for the support he received from his club, The Century City Athletics Team.
Aaron said the opportunity to travel overseas and visit Paris was something he could never have imagined in his wildest dreams.
“I can honestly say, ‘dare to dream because dreams do come true.”
And as for this year’s Sanlam Cape Town Marathon? “I’ll definitely be back,” he said.
“It was such a well organised event, showcasing the heart and soul of the beautiful Mother City. I have no doubt that the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon can easily compete with the world’s top international races.”
Entries for the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon are open. The 42.2km marathon takes place on Sunday September 17.
