A Plattekloof pianist, Ester Uys, 11, has made it through to the SAMRO National Music Competition, which will be on at the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre, in Parow, from Monday September 24 to Friday September 28.
Samro (South African Music Rights Organisation) is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Ester, who is home-schooled has been playing piano since the age of 5, and practises for two to four hours a day.
“Whenever I practise and I look at the watch, what seems like five or 15 minutes is actually an hour or two,” she said.
Besides her love for music, Ester is an animal lover who does dog training and helps animals in need.
“I would like to become a vet or music teacher,” she said.
She paid tribute to her grandparents for flying from Johannesburg for the occasion, her parents for their support and her piano teacher.
“I am playing in this competition, because I want to have a little challenge, fun and enjoyment, meet new friends and give glory to God,” said Ester.
