A Strandfontein non-profit organisation donated sanitary pads to two schools in Kraaifontein last Friday.
Empow_HER_ed gave 400 packages of pads to Scottsville High School and another 400 to Scottsdene Secondary School.
The organisation launched a project in March that aimed to provide 1000 young women from disadvantaged backgrounds with a year’s supply of pads to mark Menstrual Hygiene Day, held on May 28 annually.
“We, unfortunately, did not meet our target and shifted the project by dividing what was donated to three schools, which included Scottsville High School and Scottsdene Secondary School in Kraaifontein,” said Danielle Crowie, the director of the organisation.
Scottsville High School principal Henry Hockey and Scottsdene High School principal Peter Links both confirmed that the donations had been offered to their schools.
Western Cape Education Department spokeswoman Millicent Merton, said: “We welcome initiatives to provide female learners with resources that are essential to their well-being and dignity.”
