Mini Me, a hip hop dance group, has a chance to compete for the title of World Dance Champion at the DanceStar World Dance Masters competition in Croatia in May.
The group of girls aged 10 to 12 made it through to the international dance competition after placing first in Africa in its division at the DanceStar qualifier competition last year.
The dancers are members of the K&J Dance Unlimited studio in Edgemead.
In order to compete in the international competition, each dancer needs to raise R40 000 to cover their expenses.
Megan Bryan, the mother of Kaylee Dyssel, 12, a member of the Mini Me group, is raising funds to be able to send her daughter to compete in Croatia.
Kaylee has been dancing since she was 3. She started with ballet and later moved on to hip hop, acro, and modern dance.
“She always loved to dance. Even when she was inside my womb, she was busy doing flic-flacs and dancing up a storm,” Ms Bryan said, adding that all the group’s hard work had paid off.
Tiaan Visser, DanceStar South Africa competition and tour manager, said the dancers would take part in workshops, award ceremonies and sightseeing.
“Winning a trophy or award at this level of competition will be the cherry on the top,” he said.
Ms Bryan said the public could help to raise funds by buying a R20 raffle ticket or supporting a dace fund-raiser at Goodwood Sports Club on Saturday April 1. Tickets are R80.
