Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra’s Community Spectacular concert is back on the boards at Artscape on Saturday July 16, at 8pm.
Brandon Phillips will be on the podium with an array of South African entertainers headlined by The One Who Sings, Zolani Mahola, and Katlego Maboe who will also be the master of ceremonies.
Although the orchestra filmed a community gala in 2020 and a second one in 2021 which had a small audience as part of Artscape’s 50th anniversary celebrations, the CPO’s CEO Louis Heyneman says this is what they have been waiting for – a chance to raise the rafters with some of the most exciting artists in the city.
The Community Spectacular concerts, which have been annual events, sometimes twice a year, for the last five years, are designed to give a boost to the careers of many artists who are able to perform for the first time with a full symphony orchestra.
Performing this year are singers Lynelle Kenned, Paxton Fielies, Sarah Theron and Corneil Muller with saxophonist Kagiso Ramosa, violinists David Bester and Corban Beukes, the Zip Zap Circus, and dancers, Jazzart and Unmute.
The director is Aviva Pelham, Stefan Lombard is musical director and Louis Heyneman the producer.
Tickets cost from R135. Book through Computicket or Artscape Dial-A-Seat on 021 421 7695.
