Two men posing as customers robbed an N1 City Mall cellphone shop on Sunday morning.
The armed men forced customers and staff in the MTN store onto the floor shortly after 11am. They seized cellphones and cash before fleeing.
Provincial police spokesman Captain FC Van Wyk said the robbers were still at large and no injuries had been reported.
This is the second time that robbers hit the same shop in this year. In January last year three armed men used the same modus operandi to rob the store (“Robbers hit N1 City cellphone shop”, Northern News January 27, 2016).
There was a similar incident at Parow Shopping Centre three months ago, (“Shots fired in store robbery,” Northern News June 28).
Armed robbers have also struck at Telkom shops in malls in recent weeks: Kenilworth on Friday August 25, Bayside in Table View on Sunday 3 and Cavendish in Claremont on Sunday September 10.
