A diesel tanker and train collision at the Muldersvlei level crossing caused delays and route interruptions last night.
Ten people were injured when the tanker crashed into the Klapmuts-bound train during peak travel time, causing the train to derail.Â
Metrorail’s Riana Scott said it was too early to tell how long train services would be affected by the crash and how much the repairs would cost.Â
She added that Metrorail had opened a case of negligence against the tanker driver.
Last night hundreds of passengers headed for stations beyond Kraaifontein were stranded there when trains could go no further.
Ms Scott said only one of the two lines usually operative between Klapmuts and Kraaifontein was currently running.
Metrorail issued an alert to commuters warning that delays of up to an hour could be expected on the line.
