The Western Cape government’s vaccination drive has been widened in the northern and Tygerberg sub-districts, according to spokesperson Shimoney Regter.
Areas falling under the northern and Tygerberg sub-district are: Bellville, Bishop Lavis, Belhar, Bothasig, Delft, Durbanville (including farming communities), Elsies River, Goodwood, Kraaifontein, Ravensmead, Ruyterwacht, Reed Street, Scottsdene and Symphony Way.
Vaccination sites are coming online at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) in Bellville. They will be available for those 60 and older who are associated with the institutions.
New sites include Karl Bremer Hospital, Brackenfell Hall, Bothasig clinic, Adriaanse clinic, Chesnut clinic, Delft clinic, Durbanville and Goodwood clinics, among others.
Ms Regter said residents who received their first Pfizer vaccine would get the standard waiting time of six weeks for their second jab. They would be notified by SMS.
Those who receive the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will only receive one jab.
“Vaccine sites will, as far as possible, accommodate walk-ins in the northern and Tygerberg sub-districts. Each vaccine site can only accommodate a limited number of walk-ins which is dependent on vaccine availability,” Ms Regter said.
Residents are urged to help the elderly register for jabs by dialling the free USSD service *134*832# from your phone to start the registration process or to send the word “register” to 0600 123 456 on WhatsApp.
