The Kraaifontein Community Police Forum has expressed its sadness and shock at the sudden death of its secretary and community activist, Clamen Solomons.
Mr Solomons, 53, died in the early hours of Tuesday August 18. His family are awaiting autopsy results to learn the cause of his death.
Charne Jantjies said her father had fallen ill on Sunday August 17, following shortness of breath and a tight chest. He was rushed to Karl Bremer Hospital.
“One minute, he was here and the next he was gone,” she said.
Her father had kept the family together and been dependable to many in his community, she said. His motto had been “peace passes all understanding”.
Kraaifontein CPF chairman Mawethu Sila said they had lost a great leader.
“Mr Solomons had the ability to change a negative situation into a positive and always had a solution to a problem,” he said.
“Kraaifontein community knew they could depend on him, and I’ve known him for 15 years. We could all rely on Mr Solomons.”
Kraaifontein police station commander Brigadier Gerda van Niekerk said the community had lost a good friend and leader.
“Mr Solomons was a selfless leader who always put the needs of the Kraaifontein community first,” she said.
Mr Solomons will be remembered for his contribution to fighting crime and improving the lives of the Kraaifontein community, she said.
