Kraaifontein police arrested a 30-year-old man accused of carrying an unlicensed blank gun.
Police spokesman Captain Hein Hendricks said Anti-Gang Unit officers had gone to Belmont Park to investigate a report of a gang member seen with a gun.
Officers found the suspect driving a Toyota Hilux bakkie and pulled him over on Old Paarl Road.
“As police introduced themselves, they noticed the gun between the suspect’s legs, and an unlicensed 9mm Kuzey pistol containing seven 9mm rounds of ammunition was recovered,” he said.
The Turkish-made KuzeyS900 only fires blank 9mm rounds, but according to both Captain Hendricks and a Durbanville gunsmith, you still need a gun licence to carry one.
