■ The old water trough for animals in Voortrekker Road, Goodwood, close to Halt Road, Elsies River, in what is known as “Sopieshoogte”. It was touted as notable and historic in an undated brochure compiled by FS Van Wyk, on behalf of the Goodwood Cultural and Nature Conservation Society. The inscription says it was once a stopping point en route from Cape Town to Stellenbosch and beyond. The trough was restored and a plaque unveiled by the City of Cape Town on June 20, 2014. The name Sopieshoogte suggests it was a drinking hole for livestock, and their owners alike.
