Four men have been arrested in Kraaifontein for hijacking and possession of unlicensed firearms.
According to a statement from SAPS, the Flying Squad responded to a call about “a white Nissan NP200 bakkie roaming the streets of Kraaifontein” on Wednesday March 7. The bakkie, which was found to have been hijacked in Nyanga last month, was spotted at 4.10pm in the parking area of a shopping centre.
“Upon searching the vehicle, the following firearms were seized: one Vector 9mm pistol with magazine and 9 rounds of ammunition; one Astra 9mm pistol with magazine and 17 rounds of ammunition; and one Dash Pod semi-automatic rifle with magazine and 14 rounds of ammunition,” SAPS said.
The guns had no serial numbers.
“Four suspects, aged 27, 33, 36 and 39, from Lower Crossroads, Gugulethu and Khayelitsha, were arrested and are detained at Kraaifontein police station. They are expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court, once they have been charged,” the statement said.
