Stephne Roux says her first children’s book, Bubbles on the ocean, encourages children to improve their creative abilities.
The book’s launch at the Kuils River library on Saturday, December 7, was attended by more than 60 people including parents and their children.
The 12-page book tells the story of a young boy who is curious to know what the bubbles on the ocean are all about and then dives into the water to see for himself.
Going deeper into the sea, life underwater is not what he expected as he meets different types of sea animals. The 59-year-old Blue Downs resident, who works at the V&A Waterfront, says during her tea breaks she stares into the ocean, “wondering what is happening under there,” which is what inspired her to write the book.
“I have always had a passion for writing but I enjoy focusing on children’s stories and poems. I would like for my book to help the growing minds who are so engrossed with cellphones and laptops.”
Ms Roux said her future plans are to publish children’s books in Xhosa and Afrikaans.
The book sells for R100 and can be bought from her directly on 076 756 8205.
