A Parow butchery closed temporarily on Saturday after an employee tested positive for Covid-19.
The Fairfield Meat Centre in Voortrekker Road reopened on Monday following decontamination and the go-ahead from the relevant authorities.
“As the safety of our staff, clients and community have always been our biggest concern, we have closed the store with immediate effect. We are taking the necessary steps to sanitise and deep clean the store,” the butchery said in a post on social media.
Speaking to Northern News late on Monday, the butchery’s operations manager Ryaad Bewee said: “We had to act swiftly to get the staff she had worked with to self-isolate for 14 days.”
The store had been decontaminated at 1pm on the same day, he said. It had taken four hours to thoroughly clean the premises and a fogging device had been used. The business had also notified the departments of health and labour.
Mr Bewee said the butchery was providing more sanitising points, and staff and suppliers were being screened and undergoing temperature checks.
CEO of the Voortrekker Road Corridor Improvement District (VRCID) Derek Bock said it showed how important it was for businesses to take all necessary precautions against Covid-19, especially when dealing with large numbers of people entering a shop.
“They must keep those distances, only allow the minimum number of people into a shop, have sanitisers at their disposal,” he said.
