A joint bust by the Hawks, police crime intelligence and Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries (DEFF) officials has netted more than R2.7 million worth of abalone in Brackenfell.
The raid uncovered an illegal abalone-drying facility at Willow Creek in Brackenfell, with 15 837 units of the threatened mollusc, weighing 376kg.
Two suspects, aged 26 and 36, were arrested and were due to appear in the Kuils River Magistrate’s Court on Thursday February 25, to face charges of operating an illegal abalone processing facility.
