Animal advocate and volunteer for Grace Animal Sanctuary, Lindi Theron,of Brackenfell, has become a patron for Khayelitshas’s Mdzananda Animal Clinic.
In March, the animal clinic introduced the #pawmember campaign to sign up 3 000 paw members, each donating R100 a month. The clinic had recently lost its main donor who had given R2.2 million to it annually.
That’s when Ms Theron stepped in and joined the campaign.
She said she had been following Mdzananda’s work and had adopted her dog, Zorg, from the clinic four years ago, when had been eight weeks old.
Zorg, who was known as James Bond before being adopted, was spotted by Ms Theron on Mdzananda’s Facebook page. Ms Theron said to her husband, “Ek wil vir hom sorg,” and that’s how his name became Zorg.
At the time, Zorg was completely blind due to a herpes virus and his previous owners had not known how to care for him.
He now leads a healthier life and functions like a normal pet.
Zorg is the second eldest of five dogs being raised in the Theron’s home and is known to be the “momma’s boy” among the lot.
“He is a softy and I struggle to get him out of my bed in the morning,” said Ms Theron.
She encourages more people to sign up with the campaign to help with treating, educating and rehoming of the pets.
