Kuils River Cricket Club emerged victorious in a thrilling Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA) First Division B one-day showdown against Bonteheuwel Cricket Club on Saturday.
Bonteheuwel set the stage with a score of 201, showcasing their batting prowess. Middle order batsman, Craig Barros (105) scored a century to help his team set the double ton score.
Their batting, however, was troubled by the slick bowling of Kuils River’s Codie Strydom, Adrian Jackson, Wade Cupido and Sheldon Adams. They picked up nine wickets among them. Codie Strydom added a runout to make it 10 wickets.
The match, lasting 47.5 overs for Bontas and 46.2 overs for Kuila, unfolded with 19 extras and a riveting run-rate battle of 4.2 versus 4.36.
Bonteheuwel’s bowler Riyaad Frydie picked up 3/37 in 9.2 overs. Rashaad Stemmet received 2/25 runs and Allistair Stone picked up 1/27 runs in 10 overs.
Kuils River’s Adams was good with both the ball and the bat on the day. He scored 139 runs in 134 balls. His century included 16 boundaries and a six to top it off.
In the nail-biting conclusion, Kuils River emerged triumphant, sealing the win by 4 wickets.
The win moves Kuils River to third spot with six wins and one loss. While Bonteheuwel moves down to ninth spot with one win in eight games.
Bonteheuwel will be looking for their second win of the season when they host eighth-placed Yorkshire Cricket Club this coming Saturday. Kuils River, on the other hand, will play against St Augustine at home on Saturday.
