Green Point get the better of Kuils River

Green Points Wesley Baressi appeals for a LBW decision after a good delivery during their 42-run win against Kuils River in Green Point, at the weekend.

Green Point won the toss and elected to bat first on Saturday, scoring 201/7 in their 50 overs. Opener Munier Alexander had a field day with the bat, scoring more than half of his team’s runs. He finished his innings with 101 to take his side to a tough total for the opposition o chase.

Kuils River leg spinner, Peter David Cyster had an expensive start after conceding eight runs in his first over. However, his confidence grew after he started gripping the ball and targeting his spots well.

Cyster picked up 4/32 runs in six overs. The team effort between Cyster’s bowling and Adams’s safe hands saw them grab the big wicket of Alexander.

Adams picked up 3/30 runs and a maiden in 10 overs.

Green Point’s Adam Lazarus did his part with the ball for Green Point taking 4/24 to bowl out Kuila River for just 159, to give his side a 42-run win.

Lazarus was supported by Adam Scher who picked up 3/37 in his 10 overs. The win was Green Point’s fifth of the season in their six games and keeps them top of the log standings with 24 points, three ahead of Kraaifontein.

Chairman at Kuils River, Pat Wessels said they bowled well, however, numerous misfields cost them the game.

“We need to work on our fielding. There were a lot of missed catches that brought our opponents back into the game. The 40 runs we needed was lost by the misfields,” he said.

Wessels said the 65 year old club is five games into the new league after being promoted from the First Division B, and they are slowly but surely adjusting to the competition.

He is confident the lads will lift their heads high and bounce back to winning ways when they host NGCC on Saturday.

“You are as good as your next match. We have a bit of an advantage because we are playing at home. I think we should be able to beat them.

“The boys need to step up our game because it is a much tougher league and it’s a learning curve,” he said.
