The Read Educational Trust is running a writing competition for children aged 9 to 16.
The annual Read Word Warrior Competition promotes literacy, reading and the art of creative writing among young South Africans. Entrants have to write a fiction story incorporating a colourful character, Detective WW Inkomba (“Inkomba” means “clue” in Zulu and Xhosa).
All good detectives must be wondering what’s in it for them? Not only will their work appear on the Read website, the winner will receive a R1000 cash prize, and their school will receive R5000 worth of books. Entrants can either email info@read.co.za or post entries to PO Box 30994, Braamfontein, 2017. Entries close on Wednesday October 31. Call Read Educational Trust at 087 237 7781, or visit www.read.org.za for more information about the competition.
