Bellville Library will host an event in Elizabeth Park tomorrow, Friday April 21, to celebrate World Book Day.
World Book Day is on Sunday April 23 and libraries across the city have a variety of activities planned.
JP Smith, mayoral committee member for safety and security; and social services, said World Book Day helped to promote literacy.
“Books allow us to enter a whole new world, see places, experience adventures, and learn more about ourselves. When we read to our children from a young age, we encourage them to become enthusiastic learners and confident readers, writers and speakers,” he said.
Coinciding with World Book Day is the City’s Amaboekies Reading Team of the Year competition which also takes place on Friday April 21.
Librarians will represent their libraries in a quiz about the 25 books they have read. This year it takes place at the Bellville South civic centre and will be attended by Mr Smith.
