Scottsdene High School Grade 12 pupils Chanaye Kruger, Jodé Herman, teacher Pauline Taylor, Veronique Jansen and Chameleon de Villiers took part in the Women in Mathematics Mini-Convention, run by UWC’s Science Learning Centre for Africa, at the Capetonian Hotel, on Thursday August 3. More than 100 girls with good maths results from schools in some of the city’s poor neighbourhoods took part in the event, hearing from professionals in various fields how maths helps make women better professors, pilots, accountants, and more. Other high schools taking part included Bernadino Heights, Masibambane and Scottsville Secondary.
