A woman escaped from her burning SUV after it caught fire opposite Boston Primary School on Wednesday.
A video of the incident in Lincoln Street was posted on the Boston Community Improvement District Facebook page.
One commentator said he had noticed smoke and flames under the BMW X5 when he had driven past, just before 4pm. No-one had been inside at that stage, he added.
Another commentator said the SUV had been parked on the wrong side of the road and the woman had been frantically searching for a way to extinguish the fire.
City Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Jermaine Carelse said they had been alerted at 3pm.
“The fire crew from Bellville responded to the incident and managed to extinguish the fire by 4.13pm. The cause of the fire is unknown,” he said, adding that only the woman had been in the vehicle and he had escaped unharmed.
