The second phase of Covid-19 vaccinations began in earnest at the Brackenfell clinic on Monday May 17.
Zahid Badroodien, mayoral committee member for community services and health, said the first day of the rollout in Brackenfell had gone smoothly.
He said 70 more sites had been identified across the city where jabs would be available. The vaccination drive is coordinated by the national Department of Health, which sends SMS notifications to those who have registered for the vaccine, telling them which facility to report to.
Asked about the demand at the Brackenfell clinic, Dr Badroodien said: “As it is not a walk-in situation, there is no need for crowd management, aside from ensuring Covid-19 health and safety protocols like social distancing and sanitising.”
This phase focuses on those aged 60 and older. Registered for free by using the USSD code *134*832# or WhatsApp the word “REGISTER” to 0600 123 456. There is internet access and wi-fi at 55 libraries across the city.
