Its all systems go for the planned roadworks on the N1 highway and Sub-council 3 chairman Taki Amira has urged residents and road users to exercise caution and be patient while construction goes ahead (“Road upgrade for N1”, Northern News, February 17).
At a sub-council meeting held on Thursday March 17, Mr Amira said work has started on the Jip de Jager to St John’s link.
“We have been informed that contracts have been awarded for the long-awaited dualling of Plattekloof Road from the traffic circle at Tygerberg Valley Road near the fuel farm to Gert van Rooyen Road,” said Mr Amira.
He said work on that project will start in April and take about 12 months to complete. The project will include the rehabilitation of the existing surface of Plattekloof Road and includes the paving of sidewalks on either side of Plattekloof Road from the traffic circle at Tygerberg Valley Road to Gert van Rooyen Road.
In addition to this work, said Mr Amira, construction teams will also be resurfacing Monte Vista Boulevard on the north side of the N1 highway.
