Boland Park, in Vierlanden, Durbanville, has been upgraded, complete with an outdoor gym and footpaths, thanks to a ward allocation of R180 000 by Ward 105 councillor Justin Basson, in consultation with sub-council, residents and City Parks.
Mr Basson hopes the park will give residents a chance to exercise and relax and become a source of pride. In a statement, the City of Cape Town said residents had planted indigenous trees which were growing well.
“The durability of the footpaths has been improved by using a stronger laterite cement mixture during the construction phase. R75 000 was spent on the construction of the footpaths,” the City said.
Noticeboards with instructions on how to safely use the equipment have been posted and rubber mats will be installed before the end of June.
Trees would be planted close to the parking area in Protea Street and more benches and refuse bins would be provided, the City said.
There will be a tree-planting day on Wednesday May 11.
Residents who want to donate trees as well as volunteers who want to help on the day can email Justin.basson@capetown.gov.za
“I would like to thank residents, Sub-council 7 and the City officials involved for their hard work thus far. A special word of thanks must go to the Durbanville Agricultural Society who will be donating compost and gravel for the additional tree-planting,” said Mr Basson.
